(Original Caption) Mambo and Cha Cha Make Way. Here Comes the Merengue. New York: A new dance from the Dominican Republic was introduced to Americans at the Hotel Astor today. It's called the "Merengue." With a Merengue band playing the music, Albert and Josephine Butler (left) and Luis Bournagal, Chancellor of the Dominican Republic Consulate, and Jo Nobles, do the turnaway step of the new dance. They introduced the dance to more than 200 professional ballroom dance masters and guests. The event was sponsored by the New York Society of Teachers and Dancing.
